Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled XML Data Conversion Specialist to join our e-publishing production team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for converting various source content formats (Word, PDF, LaTeX, etc.) into structured XML, ensuring adherence to industry-specific DTDs/schemas (e.g., JATS, NLM, DITA). The role involves content structuring, tagging, validation, and quality assurance for digital and print publishing workflows. Key Responsibilities: Convert manuscripts and content files from various formats (Word, PDF, LaTeX) into XML using tools or manual coding. Ensure compliance with specific XML standards and DTDs (e.g., JATS, NLM, DocBook, DITA). Validate XML files using appropriate schema and validation tools (e.g., oXygen XML Editor, XMetaL). Perform quality checks to ensure accurate content structure, metadata tagging, and formatting. Collaborate with editorial, production, and quality teams to resolve content structure issues. Automate repetitive conversion tasks using XSLT, scripts, or conversion tools when applicable. Maintain documentation of conversion processes and best practices. Stay updated with evolving publishing standards and technologies. Requirements: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Publishing, or a related field. Proven experience in XML data conversion or e-publishing workflows. Strong knowledge of XML, XSLT, DTDs, and schema validation. Experience with XML editors (e.g., oXygen, XMetaL, Arbortext). Familiarity with scripting (e.g., Python, Perl) is a plus. Understanding of publishing standards like JATS, NLM, EPUB, or HTML. Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
