Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Videographer to join our fast-paced news team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about news and current events, possess a strong understanding of visual storytelling, and be proficient in all aspects of video production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Field Production:
- Operate professional video cameras (DSLR, Camcorder/Handycam, Mirrorless, Cinema Cameras) and associated equipment (tripods, gimbals, sliders, drones if applicable) to capture high-quality footage for news stories, interviews, live events, and features.
- Set up and manage lighting (natural and artificial) and audio equipment (microphones, mixers) to ensure optimal recording conditions.
- Conduct on/off-site interviews, ensuring proper framing, lighting, and audio capture.
- Travel to various locations, often on short notice, to cover breaking news and scheduled events.
- Maintain and transport all camera, lighting, and audio equipment safely and efficiently.
- Content Creation:
- Collaborate closely with reporters, producers, and editors to understand story requirements and visual needs.
- Develop creative visual concepts to enhance news narratives and engage viewers.
- Capture B-roll, establishing shots, and relevant footage to support news packages.
- Ensure all footage is visually compelling, technically sound, and aligns with the channel's editorial standards.
- Technical Proficiency & Maintenance:
- Demonstrate expert knowledge of camera settings, frame rates, resolutions, codecs, and file management.
- Troubleshoot technical issues with equipment quickly and effectively in the field.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of video equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Stay updated with the latest video production technologies and trends.
- Basic Editing (Desirable but not mandatory for primary role):
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Film Production, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven experience (2+ years preferred) as a videographer, preferably within a news organization, digital media company, or broadcasting environment.
- Strong portfolio/showreel demonstrating a range of videography skills, including news coverage, interviews, and visual storytelling.
- Expertise in operating professional video cameras (e.g., Sony, Canon, Panasonic, Blackmagic) and associated gear.
- Proficient in lighting techniques for various environments (indoor, outdoor, day, night).
- Solid understanding of audio recording principles and equipment.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing news cycles.
- Excellent eye for detail, composition, and visual aesthetics.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, often on short notice.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
