Job Title: Senior Accountant Location: Andheri East Department: Finance & Accounts Reports to: Director Job Type: Full-time Job Summary: The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accuracy in all financial records, and compliance with industry-specific regulations. This role involves managing the day-to-day accounting functions, monitoring financial transactions related to logistics, freight billing, custom duties, and providing key financial insights to support business decisions. Key Responsibilities:1. General Ledger & Financial Reporting Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate financial reporting, specific to freight forwarding activities such as freight costs, billing, and collection. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including Profit & Loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Review freight billing and revenue recognition processes to ensure alignment with accounting standards. 2. Freight Costing & Revenue Accounting Monitor and validate freight-related costs such as shipping, warehousing, insurance, and customs fees, ensuring correct allocation. Ensure accuracy in freight invoicing, billing customers for freight services, and verifying agent invoices. Reconcile customer accounts related to freight transactions, resolving any discrepancies with logistics partners and clients. 4. Tax Compliance & Auditing Ensure compliance with GST, TDS, and other tax regulations applicable to the freight forwarding industry. Prepare and file returns, handle TDS reconciliation, and manage tax audits. Assist with internal and external audits by providing documentation and resolving discrepancies related to freight and logistics transactions. 5. Budgeting & Financial Analysis Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis for freight operations. Analyze cost structures, such as fuel surcharges, transportation costs, and customs fees, and report on any variances. Provide key insights and financial advice on freight margins, profitability, and performance. 6. Banking & Cash Flow Management Manage bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy in transactions involving letters of credit and wire transfers related to international trade. 7. Systems & Process Improvements Implement and maintain accounting software specific to freight forwarding (e.g., CargoWise, Freight Esuite). Continuously improve financial processes related to freight invoicing, cost control, and revenue recognition. Collaborate with logistics teams to streamline financial operations and improve transparency in freight costing. 8. Team Leadership & Coordination Supervise and mentor junior accountants, providing guidance on freight-specific accounting practices. Work closely with other departments such as sales, logistics, and operations to ensure smooth coordination of financial transactions. Skills & Competencies: In-depth knowledge of freight forwarding operations, freight costing, and revenue recognition. Strong understanding of Indian accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS) and tax regulations (GST, TDS). Expertise in accounting software like Tally, CargoWise, SAP, or other ERP systems. Proficiency in MS Excel for financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work under tight deadlines. Effective communication skills to liaise with internal teams, clients, and logistics partners. Qualifications & Experience: Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CA, CPA, or similar certification preferred. Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the freight forwarding or logistics industry. Experience with managing freight costs, billing processes, and international transactions.
