Key Responsibilities: 1. Design Development: o Conceptualize and design furniture pieces that meet client specifications, market trends, and brand identity. o Create 2D/3D renderings, technical drawings, and models using CAD software such as AutoCAD, Rhino, SolidWorks, or similar tools. o Ensure designs are functional, practical, and aesthetically appealing. 2. Material Selection: o Select appropriate materials, considering cost, durability, sustainability, and customer preferences. o Collaborate with suppliers to source materials and understand their applications and limitations. 3. Prototyping and Testing: o Work closely with the production team to develop prototypes. o Ensure prototypes align with original design concepts and make adjustments as needed. o Participate in the testing of prototypes to assess durability, comfort, and overall quality. 4. Collaboration and Communication: o Liaise with clients, interior designers, and architects to understand project requirements. o Collaborate with the engineering and production teams to ensure feasibility and quality in manufacturing processes. o Present design concepts and revisions to stakeholders and incorporate feedback into final designs. 5. Market Research: o Stay updated on the latest furniture design trends, materials, and manufacturing techniques. o Research customer needs and preferences to create marketable designs. o Benchmark against competitors to ensure designs are innovative and commercially viable. 6. Project Management: o Manage multiple projects simultaneously, from concept to production. o Maintain project timelines, ensuring on-time delivery of designs and prototypes. o Work within project budgets, managing material costs and production expenses. Job Specification: Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Interior Design, or a related field. Proven experience as a furniture designer, preferably with a portfolio showcasing design work. Strong proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, or similar) and 3D modelling. Knowledge of furniture production processes, materials, and manufacturing technologies. Skills: Creativity and Innovation: Ability to develop unique and marketable furniture designs. Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of design software, drawing techniques, and manufacturing processes. Attention to Detail: Meticulous in ensuring that all aspects of the design and production process meet high standards. Problem-Solving: Ability to anticipate and resolve design or production issues effectively. Communication: Strong presentation and interpersonal skills to liaise with clients, production teams, and other stakeholders. Experience: Minimum 7+ years of experience in furniture design or a related design field. Experience working on custom furniture design projects is an asset. Understanding sustainable design practices and material choices is a plus. Personal Attributes: Strong passion for design and innovation. Ability to work independently and in a team setting. Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple projects with tight deadlines. Work Environment: This role may involve working in a design studio, workshop, or manufacturing environment.
